Wow! So that's how she got crippled. Poor Irene! ;_;

Yeah... That guy must not have been very bright. He made things with Maxus very, VERY personal. And we've seen Maxus when he's peeved. He does not really loose his cool. Instead, he becomes cold and calculative. And I bet he tends not to hold back. Judging by Prince Douchebag's "sparring match" with him, it just makes him that much more dangerous.
Centcomm 23rd May 2014, 10:58 AM edit delete reply

well to be fair Maxus was younger here - mind you he does not look it but hes a designed being. so he doesn't age the same way a normal human does - and Irenes attacker was also "enhanced" as well and that massive power and strength is what hurt her so badly
jamie59 23rd May 2014, 12:24 AM edit delete reply

He really dosen't know who not to piss off. I hope his death was slow & painful.
Stormwind13 23rd May 2014, 6:04 AM edit delete reply

I'm with you jamie. If he waited to deal with the problem in the arena, he waited too long in my opinion.

Maxus should have caught him in a dark hallway. Whatever was left should have been feed slowly into a meat-grinder. Feet first to ensure that it takes awhile and can FEEL it.

Poor Irene didn't deserve to be used that way.

::HUGS Irene::
Centcomm 23rd May 2014, 10:56 AM edit delete reply

you will see his fate on monday :D
xpacetrue 23rd May 2014, 12:26 AM edit delete reply

BTW: The vote incentive is nice. However, a black bike does not show up very well on a black background. For that matter, I think black is often a poor choice for vehicles because it's so dark it tends to hide details, shading, and shadows.

Then again, Lynn is supposed to be the focus. :P
Centcomm 23rd May 2014, 10:55 AM edit delete reply

thats why shes in white and everything else is gray/black :D :D

Centcomm 23rd May 2014, 10:54 AM edit delete reply

ohhh I think you will be happy :D
Rashala 23rd May 2014, 7:31 PM edit delete reply

Welll I was nto entirely happy with how lightly deci got off. *mostly wanted his jaw shattered and wired shut but meh* But I will wait and see.....*shows Maxus how he can pop all the discs in a person's spine and they still can feel only pain
Draginbeard 23rd May 2014, 2:26 AM edit delete reply

Thats some kind of twisted thinking. I would have thought he would want her as she was. This takes things beyond the need for revenge.
Stormwind13 23rd May 2014, 6:01 AM edit delete reply

Maybe that was the idea Draginbeard. Making Maxus' angry so he would make a mistake and get himself defeated. Possibly even crippled in an 'accident' in the arena.

I doubt it worked out for the idiot. And it is sad that anyone would do that to Irene. She didn't deserve to be used that way.

::HUGS Irene::
Centcomm 23rd May 2014, 10:54 AM edit delete reply

Stormwind13 23rd May 2014, 3:35 PM edit delete reply

It's always darkest before the dawn, Van. And we know that Irene survived it. And her and Max are very much in love still. :-)
Sheela 26th May 2014, 3:38 PM edit delete reply

Interestingly, I often find stories that stays too lighthearted worse than the ones with the occasional dark spot.

It's like they're trying to avoid the salient points of the story.
TheD-Wrek 23rd May 2014, 10:17 AM edit delete reply

Next update. NOW!!! XD lol.

Great work! Oh! I'm going to make my next calendar entry a little fan art for ya since I still owe ya. ;)

Sheela 23rd May 2014, 11:16 AM edit delete reply

Nightmare fuel ?
Centcomm 23rd May 2014, 12:55 PM edit delete reply

no .. not really - we really wanted to avoid showing much here. more imply rather than brutally showing..
KarToon12 23rd May 2014, 12:03 PM edit delete reply

And then Maxus killed the guy, right?
Sheela 23rd May 2014, 12:30 PM edit delete reply

I suspect Maxus will try to turn a piece of carbon into a diamond, like Superman did.

But instead of a piece of coal, he will use a piece of a-hole.
It's should be an interesting experiment. :)
Centcomm 23rd May 2014, 12:57 PM edit delete reply

well - look what he did to the prince .. and he didn't actually do much lasting damage to Acantha, But this guy.. oh boy.. he just kicked the wrong hornets nest :D
Sheela 23rd May 2014, 2:04 PM edit delete reply

Diamonds! :D
Stormwind13 23rd May 2014, 3:29 PM edit delete reply

I don't think you can get diamonds from a$$holes, Sheela. It would be a funny muddy color, I fear.
Not that Maxus isn't going to TRY though. I'll agree with you there. :-)
Sheela 23rd May 2014, 8:50 PM edit delete reply

Hrmm .. you're right, all the blood would make it red .. hmm ..

... rubies ! :D
Stormwind13 23rd May 2014, 8:57 PM edit delete reply

I'm not sure, Sheela; however, I don't think that is how rubies are formed. :-D
Sheela 24th May 2014, 3:02 AM edit delete reply

... worth a try ? :)
Stormwind13 24th May 2014, 8:02 AM edit delete reply

::Nods:: Worth a try, Sheela!

At best you would get a ruby AND remove an a$$hole from the world. At worst you remove a complete a$$hole from the world. Sounds Win-Win to me. :-D
JGibs_Evil_Twin 23rd May 2014, 5:32 PM edit delete reply

What a scumbag! Hope he gets his a$$ handed to him! Great page.
Centcomm 24th May 2014, 3:58 PM edit delete reply

thank you ! and Mondays page is going to be pure awesome - trust me :D
JTLocke 23rd May 2014, 10:21 PM edit delete reply

This page is amazeballs. I love the blood splatter and all of the art. ALL of it.
Centcomm 24th May 2014, 3:59 PM edit delete reply

thank you.. BOWS - I did the blood splatter effect to kinda indicate the violence of the attack without actually showing it. I think showing it would have been overkill :D
Stormwind13 24th May 2014, 4:15 PM edit delete reply

Yeah, Maxus would have hunted you down for that, I think.
Centcomm 24th May 2014, 4:50 PM edit delete reply

I have no doubt about that
Sheela 24th May 2014, 10:48 PM edit delete reply

....

Y'know, I like a good realistic story as much as anybody, but when the characters of a story comes to life and hunt down the author, you need to back off on the realism a bit, methinks. :D
Stormwind13 24th May 2014, 10:55 PM edit delete reply

Naw Sheela. It will keep the artist and author HONEST. If not, they KNOW what is coming for them. :-D
Tokyo Rose 25th May 2014, 3:01 AM edit delete reply

We went back and forth some on how much we wanted to show and how much we wanted to imply. I'm personally pleased with the results.
Stormwind13 25th May 2014, 11:01 AM edit delete reply

I think you did a pretty good job balancing it, Rose.

Reminds me of Hitchcock, like in the original Psycho. You KNEW what was going on, but didn't show Marion's demise in the shower. Let the audience fill in the details for themselves.

And Irene's expression in the 3rd panel is fantastic, CentComm. Shows the shock, fear beautifully.

So you two, take a bow for your great work. :-)
Centcomm 25th May 2014, 11:31 PM edit delete reply

*bows* thank you Storm :D
Don B. 25th May 2014, 11:12 PM edit delete reply
Personally, I think what you were trying to do here would not have worked as well without the blood splatter in the margins. As a cue for brutal violence without having to be explicit, it works very well. Also, I like the lack of color in the flashbacks themselves. It separates the now from then aspects of the story quite nicely.I have a question though. Had you considered using some sort of filter or effect to represent the age of the memories Irene is recounting? Old pictures being an example of what I mean. Your artwork is of the quality I've come to expect from you CentComm, but I have to say that the flashbacks themselves look a little too clean to my eyes. It's a little quibble and by no means a criticism, but I am genuinely curious.
Centcomm 25th May 2014, 11:31 PM edit delete reply

actually that idea escaped me. I was using a new process to make the flashbacks. It was Roses idea to "imply" the violence rather than showing it. the blood splatters was all me. :D although using the sepia color we had hoped to get the flashback idea across :D glad you liked the result :D
Don B. 26th May 2014, 1:54 AM edit delete reply
I saw a movie once. It was called Traffic and was about the sexual slavery of women, including young girls. The explicit violence towards women was in no way meant to glorify these actions, but I couldn't make it halfway through the movie. It left me sick to my stomach and outraged in a way I have rarely (if ever) felt. I'm not very squeamish when it comes to explicit violence but this was too much for me. Thank you, Rose, for not making me go through that again. I realize that I generally comment on CentComm's art and stuff, but it's hard for me to discern, exactly, your contributions to the background details such as implying this kind of violence unless one of you point it out. You have a gift for dialogue and a wicked sense of humor that perfectly compliment CentComm's artistic skills. I may not be able to recognize your editing skills and background work as I only see the finished product, but I do know that without them, this would be a very different comic. You do excellent work.
