To answer some of the questions coming up in the comments:

Katya is a failed experiment--mentally, she's a permanent three-year-old. Decimus had sex with her exactly once, before he realized that she wasn't just shy or awkward, and was thoroughly skeeved out after he learned the truth*. After that, well, she was simply his pet and a sort of living decoration.

* He had a lot of psychological issues, don't get me wrong, but little kids were not in his sexual target range.

Wondering where this is going.
Tokyo Rose 22nd May 2017, 4:19 AM edit delete reply

It's wrapping up a loose end.
Sheela 22nd May 2017, 8:35 AM edit delete reply

BDSM ?

I dunno Rose, it doesn't seem like the right time for that.

guest1 22nd May 2017, 10:37 AM edit delete reply
just hope Mr. Black ( or whatever name ) an Connie are still there (get paid ) to take Katya to sissy..
AWW poor Katya,, someone has to tell her, her human is not coming back for her.!! thats gonna break her heart..
antrik 22nd May 2017, 11:12 AM edit delete reply
Well, if she is like a typical cat, she doesn't really care what happened to her human, as long as she gets fed ;-)
Sheela 22nd May 2017, 12:17 PM edit delete reply

I'm sure Dolly has left a note with Maxus that the cat (Katya) should be re-united with Dusty

Hopefully, her mood will pick up again when she meets her sister again. :)
guest1 23rd May 2017, 3:20 AM edit delete reply
from what i have read,, Katya is/was dikmouse's only total loyal "pet" .. an it looked like she loved (as in pet, not perv,,)him.. so as i see it,, Katya is the only one who will miss his douchness..
antrik 23rd May 2017, 9:57 AM edit delete reply
Kali only said that he could trust his cat... As in, she wouldn't partake in scheming against him. And it was most likely sarcastic. I don't think we should read too much into it...
MirrorField 23rd May 2017, 3:18 AM edit delete reply
Hm. Reassignment to Setorius as experimental subject in attempt to boost her mind? With hopes of avoiding "Flowers for Algernon" scenario *this time*...
antrik 23rd May 2017, 9:51 AM edit delete reply
She was already a discarded church experiment -- why would they suddenly want to experiment on her again?
megados 22nd May 2017, 12:12 AM edit delete reply
Hello, Katya! I am glad you can get food, and you are OK! Tell me about NiceCrow. What is this place, your room?

(Things should be looking up for Katya now!)

Beautiful room! I wonder who her friend in blue is.
Tokyo Rose 22nd May 2017, 4:18 AM edit delete reply

It's the Prince's suite. Cent did a great job on it. :D
Sheela 22nd May 2017, 8:32 AM edit delete reply

Well, all we know about NiceCrow, is that he orders food for Katya and talks to the wall a lot. (aka. the intercomm)
Probably either a local guard or a local medi saucer/physician, or a BUTLER !!! *dun* *dun* *duuunn*

The person in blue, is probably someone from the kitchen staff.
kraznor 22nd May 2017, 9:03 AM edit delete reply
He is studding a crippled murderturd as well some eggs

@Tokyo Rose, yeah she did! It gives a good idea of how the other half livedbeforehegottoastedinahugefireball!

@Sheela yeah, probably kitchen or general go-fer slave . . . can't see her neck.

Ah, yes, @kraznor, good catch! I thought he looked familiar; I just couldn't place him.
Stormwind13 22nd May 2017, 11:09 AM edit delete reply

The one in blue should be cattservant, megados. :-D
megados 22nd May 2017, 5:02 PM edit delete reply
Stormwind13, I see you found your way back! :D W/B!

Maybe we should ask: @cattservant, Confirm? Deny? ;)
antrik 22nd May 2017, 11:18 AM edit delete reply
@megados actually I'm not so sure about things looking up... She will probably be sold off like Dusty was -- but unless Dolly can fulfil her promise, Katya might have less luck with her new owner...
Sheela 22nd May 2017, 12:22 PM edit delete reply

NiceCrow does look a lot like Medisacer Lapaedus
megados 22nd May 2017, 5:14 PM edit delete reply
@antrik, that's what I'm hoping. Dolly won't forget; she'll be working to do just that. She is likely arranging it as we speak.

@Sheela, I think NiceCrow is Katya's name for him. I could be wrong, though.
cattservant 22nd May 2017, 5:35 PM edit delete reply

Wrong gender.
megados 22nd May 2017, 5:45 PM edit delete reply
@cattservant, I didn't want to answer for ya! ;D
Stormwind13 22nd May 2017, 6:53 PM edit delete reply

We might be able to fix that, catt... Or get the kitties to fix it. }:->
cattservant 23rd May 2017, 12:04 AM edit delete reply

Doesn't matter much any more.
Sheela 23rd May 2017, 2:31 AM edit delete reply

You want to "fix" catsservant ?

*shudder*
megados 23rd May 2017, 10:26 AM edit delete reply
Run, cattservant! Katya will show you where to hide!
Stormwind13 23rd May 2017, 4:31 PM edit delete reply

And then lead trackers right to him, when she gets coaxed back out by someone offering food, megados. :-)

jamie59 22nd May 2017, 12:15 AM edit delete reply

We have seen them before (except different brands), e.g. in "Ceci vision.." (presently http://datachasers.thecomicseries.com/comics/575 ), or "Andrology 101.." (presently http://datachasers.thecomicseries.com/comics/875 )
Timotheus 22nd May 2017, 12:35 AM edit delete reply

Peas and carrots, baked potato, and chicken chunks (at least that's what they're shaped like). No doubt based on available food images but it does speak volumes about what reheat-able food will still be like in the future.
If I had to hazard a guess, I'd bet Katya (and Bearfriend) is held in much higher regard by the staff than her master was.
And her room is that cage on the left I think.
mjkj 22nd May 2017, 1:11 AM edit delete reply

Oh, Dusty's sister...

I wonder what will happen with her...

Hmmm... Katya must be hard to write, with all that wrong spelling and grammar... - great work, Rose (and of course Cent, too)

HiFranc 22nd May 2017, 1:23 AM edit delete reply

So she's not been educated and even thinks like a toddler?* Given that Decimus used her often, that says a lot about Decimus!

*Dusty was far more articulate than she is.
The Old Scribe 22nd May 2017, 1:28 AM edit delete reply

And who is this poor soul? Someones pet? Is she from a primitive race or just not educated or socialized? She seems to have an Asian or Mongolian cast to her features. I'm reminded of that girl they found in India that had been raised by a troop of monkeys. Are we to assume that this palace is in Nova Roma?
Gilrandir 22nd May 2017, 1:56 AM edit delete reply
I believe we first get to see her in the background here ("Comic 342 - The Prince.."), although it is quite some time after that before she has any direct interaction. We learn more about her indirectly from her sister than we find out in any of her own scenes.
The Old Scribe 22nd May 2017, 2:52 AM edit delete reply

Aha! So she was Prince Doucheimus' playtoy. I'm glad someone's taking care of the poor thing. You wonder if she can ever be rehabbed. His death was too quick to suit me. I'd have voted for him to be covered in honey and staked out on an anthill in the desert.
Sheela 23rd May 2017, 9:14 AM edit delete reply

Curiously, I think Katya was one of the few that Decimus treated even remotely nice.
guest1 23rd May 2017, 10:23 AM edit delete reply
as i sed "Loyal PET." every thing i have seen bout Katya,, she loved her human( pet, not perv.)an since she was "loyal" dikimus had no reason to mistreat ..
Haegan2005 22nd May 2017, 1:33 AM edit delete reply

Decimus had no use for an intelligent female. Katya represented to him a trophy of some sort. Something unique that no one else would or could have.

I can imagine that Ducimous took some effort to discourage her from learning or even thinking. At least at first. Eventually the newness wore off and she was largely forgotten, but by then the training had taken over and she was eager to not be punished again.

While I do not have any direct evidence of this, I am basing it off of Deci's character and mental sickness as I understand it.

And yes, this page tugs at my heart strings pretty hard.
cattservant 22nd May 2017, 2:22 AM edit delete reply

The Kitty sisters...
Stormwind13 22nd May 2017, 11:07 AM edit delete reply

Your mistresses, catt! Bow down to them and bring them goodies. :-D
cattservant 22nd May 2017, 5:28 PM edit delete reply

That's the job description.
Centcomm 22nd May 2017, 5:31 PM edit delete reply

all fear the kittys!
Sheela 22nd May 2017, 10:06 PM edit delete reply

Well, considering that she *was* a part of a military combat project, she could potentially, be very, VERY dangerous, if she gets angry.
Rashala 22nd May 2017, 2:34 AM edit delete reply

If this is to show how inhuman decimmus was......yeah kinda already wanting the gene code that equals him to be illegal after the whole try to rape and kill his own sister bit.

Anything else now is just....well duh let's all dance on his ashes now.
Sheela 22nd May 2017, 8:28 AM edit delete reply

D'AAAWWWWWW !!
She's such a sweetie, and she need hugs!

*offers up murderturd plushie doll, and hugs*
All the Pickles 22nd May 2017, 12:19 PM edit delete reply

Does this muderturd plushie fart antiseptic and shout in beeps?
DLKmusic 22nd May 2017, 6:51 PM edit delete reply

@All the Pickles: Yes, but you have to pull the string.
Stormwind13 22nd May 2017, 1:55 PM edit delete reply

I don't think Katya would like a murderturd plushie, Sheela. It looks scary and is too big to drag around (if it was life-sized).
Sheela 22nd May 2017, 10:05 PM edit delete reply

No, no, it's in a huggable size. :)
It's kinda Winslow sized.

Nothing less for a Cat that is now Empress !!

Karyl 22nd May 2017, 8:45 AM edit delete reply
Commenters- Rose clears up stuff with her post just below the comic- it's good to know she's being cared for, after just being a visual effect.

sigpig 22nd May 2017, 10:56 AM edit delete reply

You win all the internets today...
Ebonbolt 22nd May 2017, 4:18 PM edit delete reply

Is that a reward, or a punishment?
Sheela 23rd May 2017, 9:19 AM edit delete reply

I dunno, but I bet it's tasty.

All the big cats purr at the thought of some yummy internets !
And Katya is a big cat indeed !
megados 23rd May 2017, 10:32 AM edit delete reply
That's a nice big kitty
Ebonbolt 24th May 2017, 7:32 AM edit delete reply

Yes, but... internet trolls! That'd give indigestion to Taz!
Rigor 23rd May 2017, 8:29 PM edit delete reply
Oh...really? Let's start at the beginning...primitive societies had no concept of zero. Wait, that's too far back. When the Internet first started it was mostly inane babble, porn and cats: http://icanhas.cheezburger.com
Not much has changed.
antrik 22nd May 2017, 11:21 AM edit delete reply
I think I liked the original kitty look better... (Although this is clearly a much superior model.)
Stormwind13 22nd May 2017, 1:41 PM edit delete reply

I understand what you're saying antrik; however, I like this Katya better myself. I think this shows her feline, feral nature better.
Centcomm 22nd May 2017, 3:50 PM edit delete reply

after a lot of consideration i upgraded Katya to the Gen3 Female However her textures are all the same ones from the V4 version. And tryed really really hard to get her to look the same.

Morituri 22nd May 2017, 1:02 PM edit delete reply
On the one hand, she's a product of the Church's genetic labs. It's good to see Lepaedus engaged in some kind of humane treatment of her, and devoutly to be hoped that it's because the Church feels some responsibility for her. They certainly understand what her issues are, and we've seen no reason to suppose that Setorius is inhumane, as such.

On the other hand, she's a failed experiment, it's doubtful they can learn anything more from her, and Setorius has a ... shall we say no-nonsense ... attitude toward failure and waste. If the Church is responsible for choosing what happens to her, the choices appear to be Permanent Care or Disposal, and I doubt that Permanent Care is the ticket, unless someone (Lepaedus? Julia?) makes Katya a member of their own household.

Which leaves us wondering what Disposal looks like. Best possible scenario, IMO, is that they can track down Dusty (she still has her collar, which could contain a tracker if it's Chekhov's Collar) and reunite the sisters, whereupon Logrin has to figure out what to do with her. Lots of inbetweens ranging from adoption-by-somebody to sale-to-somebody-else. And the worst possible scenario... well, is the worst possible scenario.

What to do with the toys, once the children are gone... Especially when the toys are children in their own right.
Centcomm 22nd May 2017, 3:52 PM edit delete reply

" Disposal " for the church is a clean quiet death by injection.
Morituri 22nd May 2017, 4:55 PM edit delete reply
I kind of figured.

Which is, you know, better than the worst possible scenario, but not, IMO, something to root for.

@Ebonbolt, you're right. Julia & her wife are moving to Shinedo. Probably. I had momentarily allowed it to escape my mind.
Ebonbolt 22nd May 2017, 4:20 PM edit delete reply

Not Julia. Julia's gone.
megados 22nd May 2017, 9:29 PM edit delete reply
Dolly said she was going to find and free Katya here. Dolly will certainly try; her word is good, and she likely won't forget.

Freedom won't be enough for her by itself, because she probably can't make it on her own. If she could go to Logrin and Dusty, that would seem to be ideal. Otherwise, NiceCrow (Lepaedus) might be her only other option. It may be that the Church has done all that it intends to.
Deoxy 22nd May 2017, 2:49 PM edit delete reply
I can't speak to the specifics, but "developmentally delayed" adults do often have sexual desires, etc. Handling that can be very difficult to navigate. For something at least similar, but without the "feels like child rape" squickiness, you can look at cases of dementia and the related difficulties on this topic.

"Stuck at three" might be too far back for that though, I'm not sure. Not an expert, by any means, just had a bit of education on the topic.
Deoxy 22nd May 2017, 2:51 PM edit delete reply
To clarify: by "education", I don't mean "in the classroom", more "spoken a decent amount with many people deeply and personally involved in the care of developmentally delayed adults." So, no, definitely not an expert, just pointing out something a lot of people don't seem to know.
velvetsanity 22nd May 2017, 3:46 PM edit delete reply

Agreed. Even if the mind isn't developed enough to truly understand, the body still imparts the biological imperatives of food/safety/reproduction. Definitely a very tricky, controversial, and volatile topic here.
megados 23rd May 2017, 10:44 AM edit delete reply
Lack of higher intellect doesn't mean absence of the more instinctual drives.

Decimus was perverted, just not in that way. Its a relief to know that she wasn't serially abused by him. Her mental health was probably not compromised.
lalverson 22nd May 2017, 5:12 PM edit delete reply

Very well done! I like the commentary she gives. While her mental abilities are lacking she does a pretty fair job expressing herself and her surroundings. The the church knew of dusty's progress they may attempt further education/training for our girl kitty.

And I love her "Bearfriend"!
Tokyo Rose 22nd May 2017, 6:55 PM edit delete reply

The Church doesn't discard its experiments lightly. Dusty is the "successful" one of this particular experimental batch. Katya was judged a failure because her mental capabilities are sub-standard. They did try to educate her, but there's just a point beyond which she can't progress.

Bearfriend is brave and vigilant!
lalverson 22nd May 2017, 8:40 PM edit delete reply

Ah, I see. But still she does seem to have mastered her full limit. Seems she is a survivor after all.
DLKmusic 22nd May 2017, 6:33 PM edit delete reply

@Rose: Thank you for clarifying things in the Author's notes, Rose. I had all kinds of bad imaginings of what a hell her life must have been as Decimus's pet, and for a long time I had thought that her horror story in the black palace was probably the worst.

As it turns out, although I'm sure it had a lot of dark moments (Deck was, after all, the kind of guy that would beat his pets for the hell of it), her life was probably as good as could be expected under the circumstances. I actually feel a lot better knowing that.

Now I'm following this thread with fear and trepidation, because it could go sideways real fast for her now.
Stormwind13 22nd May 2017, 7:54 PM edit delete reply

When has *ANYTHING* ever gone sideways in this comic with the (EVIL) benevolent artist and authoress, DLK? :-D
Haegan2005 22nd May 2017, 8:27 PM edit delete reply

Well, let us count the ways...

Okay, I can't count that high!
velvetsanity 22nd May 2017, 10:07 PM edit delete reply

When has anything ever not gone sideways? (DC:Shinedo doesn't count. BTW, are we ever going to see more of that? Was it made a separate comic, or simply dropped? And yes, I do recall that Dianne was the artist for it, before you bring that up :D )
Timotheus 23rd May 2017, 2:56 AM edit delete reply

Kitty Cat, Kitty Cat, where have you been?
I've been to London to visit the Queen.
Kitty Cat, Kitty Cat, what did you there?
I scared a little mouse under her chair.

My guess would be that as royal property they'd just wait until her highness returns to decide what to do with the royal cat. (It's not like the cat is going to lead a rebellion.)
guest1 23rd May 2017, 3:35 AM edit delete reply
well we all know what,, or how Maxus feels bout " abusing females" under his protection..
an i think " 3 year old " Katya falls in that category ... an i wood like to think ,,nicecrow,, is calling Maxus now :"sir what do we do with this.???"...
DLKmusic 23rd May 2017, 7:27 PM edit delete reply

@guest1: Maybe Maxus, Maybe Setorus. I think the later might be more likely, unfortunately.
guest1 23rd May 2017, 8:29 PM edit delete reply
,,, yeah good point.. Setorus iz his boss.
maybe thats why the call is so long..
Nicecrow: umm boss we have Katya, the prince's "pet" what do i do with IT.??
Setorus: ? AND why did you call me?? that is a palace problem.! call Maxus. If he is busy take care of it till he is not.!
