Well, this doesn't seem promising.
Guest 17th Apr 2019, 1:46 AM edit delete reply
Ooh, I was wondering if the "Kali: Send a team to do mean things!" uttered by pre-toast Decimus happened or not.

So we've got a team of Cassians + agents that never received a stand down order. Or Acantha is secretly a ventriloquist and is about to demand a bathrobe.
Lurker314 17th Apr 2019, 1:47 AM edit delete reply
No break for anyone, huh?

Unless that's Tokyo Rose butting in, this is REALLY bad. But... if it IS Tokyo Rose butting in... this is REALLY, REALLY bad.

Conclusion: This is bad. REALLY bad.
Lurker314 17th Apr 2019, 1:48 AM edit delete reply
Anyone want to give odds that the sparing match is about to be moved up a bit?
Eli Cosmanis 17th Apr 2019, 1:50 AM edit delete reply

Or maybe some kind of a club.
Naesten 17th Apr 2019, 2:07 AM edit delete reply
I am honestly kind of surprised she bothered even trying that one on. Would it's brevity not have been fairly apparent even on the "hanger" (or whatever monstrosity such a tiny thing would be kept upon)?
HiFranc 17th Apr 2019, 3:04 AM edit delete reply

Who gave the Noctis those orders?
Deoxy 17th Apr 2019, 9:44 AM edit delete reply
Who CAN give her orders? That should be a VERY VERY short list.

If Joe Randomperson walked up and said "Directive - blah blah blah", I'd give it 50/50 odds that she did the Noctic equivalent of laughing in his face, with the rest being instant execution.

So, this is somebody with some authority, which means someone from Nova Roma. She would recognize Max's voice... who else has the authority to give directives to the ranking Cassian?!?
Gilrandir 17th Apr 2019, 11:31 AM edit delete reply
Even more: Who can give her orders,in a voice she does not recognize? Without first having their bona fides questioned and verified. That might argue for a delayed upload, ala 'Liberrtatem'. Or not. Guess we have to wait and see. Maybe it is a member of the secret cyberpath underground here to recruit her to their cause?
megados 17th Apr 2019, 1:26 PM edit delete reply
Since it doesn't seem as though Cella, nor any of the others can hear it, it might also be logical to surmise that it is coming through a (Nova Roman?) (Cassian?) comm channel. At the point where she says "Who -", all she has heard is her name, so I can't be sure she doesn't or won't recognize the voice, and I don't see how any order can be valid if she can't ascertain the source. It could be followed by "If you want no harm to come to Acantha. . ."
HiFranc 17th Apr 2019, 5:30 PM edit delete reply

Could it be a recording of the first Livus? It could be programmed to activate if she’s in New Troy, her charge is safe and some other conditions?

The thought of a cyberpath is scary? Maybe their control can’t control her but can control the inhibitor by activating the authorised system?
HiFranc 17th Apr 2019, 5:39 PM edit delete reply

Part of me wonders if it’s Dr Silver in a bid to get her to remove the shackles of the inhibitor.

{edit}
Or she was asked by Centcomm to see if the inhibitor posed a security threat?
Morituri 17th Apr 2019, 6:20 PM edit delete reply
Almost definitely a cyberpath.

What you've got here is a white speech balloon using the font normally indicating human speech, communicating directly with Noctis and apparently silently. Without being heard by either of the actual humans present (meaning not audio) and without being heard by Cella (meaning not ultrasonic android-talk and not any of the bands normally used by androids).

What remains? A human able to communicate with, and give commands to, Noctis by some channel other than those. Some channel that isn't normally even monitored by androids.

What does that sound like to you? I'm seeing only one possible answer. And the Princess' bodyguard seems like the highest-priority or highest-potential-payoff target to arrive in New Troy in a long time, so this might be the time a cyberpath picks to try an attack they've never dared try before.
robnot 17th Apr 2019, 9:57 PM edit delete reply
i have to agree with you. prolly a cyberpather..
but what most DON'T know... her deep rooted fear / loathing of pathers.!!! that's gonna give her a bonus to resist .. at least get a warning out...
an IF wen all said an dun.. an she is still functional ..no one is gonna stop her,, not even Centcom.!
megados 17th Apr 2019, 11:13 PM edit delete reply
Whatever the source, her eyes say she's a little unnerved by this.
knuut 18th Apr 2019, 2:21 AM edit delete reply
It may be noteworthy that Aeneas seems to be the only non-biological who speaks with a white word balloon, has a voice Noctis may not immediately recognize, and may have 'Directive' authority over the Cassians
knuut 18th Apr 2019, 2:31 AM edit delete reply
Oh,and almost certainly would have access to the 'secure' com link that Centcomm established so Acanthia can talk with New Rome.
DLKmusic 18th Apr 2019, 8:21 PM edit delete reply

I was thnking it might be Aeneas myself, but whomever it may be, it seems to have been triggered by the New Troy ID chip with Acantha's financial information tied to it.
HiFranc 18th Apr 2019, 9:58 PM edit delete reply

Aeneas has a purple edge to his balloons - black edge = human.
knuut 19th Apr 2019, 12:18 AM edit delete reply
My wife confirms purple. sorry for the confusion. ... Note to artist: about 10% of men are somewhat color blind. That purple is black to my eyes. I love your work but low contrast color change are beyond me.
Morituri 19th Apr 2019, 1:31 AM edit delete reply
I'm going to categorically state that that speech bubble is bordered in the color black. I turned up the brightness on my monitor until it's nearly washed out, and there is not a trace of purple there.
megados 19th Apr 2019, 7:42 AM edit delete reply
My eyes (and monitor) have pretty good color rendition. It is black.
Ictuan 19th Apr 2019, 12:57 PM edit delete reply
It looks like a black border to me. I have no colorblindness.
knuut 19th Apr 2019, 5:56 PM edit delete reply
This is starting to sound like a monitor artifact.
kraznor 17th Apr 2019, 3:48 AM edit delete reply
So whos giving Noctis orders ? is it centcom, rose, Aeneas or her worst nightmare ? and what will these orders be ? but on a more important note will we get a better look at that cute little nothing Acanthe is wearing ?
Kamy 17th Apr 2019, 4:26 AM edit delete reply

I agree, It's really confusing having more than one people talking with the same colour and the same font...
When heard, you almost always know how talks... I personally don't like this confusion. some author likes it, I don't.
megados 17th Apr 2019, 8:55 AM edit delete reply
Who is giving Noctis these orders? This is ominous indeed. Some kind of surreptitious communication? It's worrisome, especially given Acantha's remarks to Cella.

It seems Acantha has a more mature sense of style than Lynn does. :D

Minor nitpick: It looks like some of the image is left in the border between panel 3 and panel 5. Panel 3 doesn't extend all the way over it?
Centcomm 17th Apr 2019, 10:22 AM edit delete reply

oops sorry about that.. had to do some last second editing and i thought i got that.
megados 17th Apr 2019, 11:10 PM edit delete reply
I just thought you'd wanna know. No need to be sorry. :)

Re: A/N 2, that's indeed great news! Grats!
KarToon12 17th Apr 2019, 2:34 PM edit delete reply

Her orders are to burn that dress.
Fifi the Fashion Cassian 18th Apr 2019, 8:13 PM edit delete reply
@DLKmusic was going to agree with you, but I caught him last night in public wearing a "Fender" shirt while playing an ovation guitar.... shameful!

He is currently indisposed.
Rigor 17th Apr 2019, 9:32 PM edit delete reply
My vote is that it’s Tokyo Rose. But will we get to see the rest of that outfit? Lynn is in frame blocking the view.
Centcomm 18th Apr 2019, 11:09 PM edit delete reply

Maybe as a incentive ya pervs
Rigor 19th Apr 2019, 12:58 AM edit delete reply
...says the artist who selected the dress. Why provide fan service if you don't want that reaction? 😀 But seriously, an incentive is a fair deal.
knuut 21st Apr 2019, 8:41 PM edit delete reply
Not enough swearing to be Rose. More likely Aeneas just checking in to say he's feeling better now and how is Acanthia?
Bullwinkle 18th Apr 2019, 9:43 AM edit delete reply
I bet the Evil Duo are going to leave us on elevender hooks regarding that order by pulling a scene switch!
Ictuan 18th Apr 2019, 12:40 PM edit delete reply
They would never be so cruel...

would they?
megados 18th Apr 2019, 2:15 PM edit delete reply
Nah, they wouldn't . . . unless they felt like it.
Bullwinkle 19th Apr 2019, 7:50 PM edit delete reply
If you really believe that you haven't been paying attention 8>)
megados 20th Apr 2019, 12:04 AM edit delete reply
Well . . . all I can really say is that the creatrices are simultaneously whimsical, capricious, enigmatic, and a little bit sadistic, so . . . ;)

(did I miss anything?) XD
Ictuan 20th Apr 2019, 9:20 AM edit delete reply
@megados,

I think you summed them up quite well.

If they weren't thinking of it before, now that we're all fixated on who is giving Noctis orders, they are sure to turn this into a major cliffhanger and switch scenes.
mjkj 19th Apr 2019, 2:00 AM edit delete reply

ugh, nice ... "dress" Acantha...

...and as soon as Noctis has the official bodyguard status she gets mysterious orders??? :o

...I just hope no (permanent) harm comes to Noctis, Acantha and Lynn...
Rashala 19th Apr 2019, 3:02 AM edit delete reply

Noctis's thought in these scenes . that garment is inadequate protection for my charge. And then i do not run amok I merely creatively solve problems with extreme prejudice... There is a difference.
Sheela 21st Apr 2019, 2:24 PM edit delete reply

She wants Acantha in a full on Armor Cloth burka. 🤣
Hornet 19th Apr 2019, 9:51 AM edit delete reply
Can we get Acantha in that "dress" as a vote incentive?
megados 20th Apr 2019, 1:28 AM edit delete reply
If I'm honest, I hafta say, she's a 16 year old. C'mon maaannn! :D
Hornet 19th Apr 2019, 9:51 AM edit delete reply
Can we get Acantha in that "dress" as a vote incentive?
Fannish 20th Apr 2019, 12:25 AM edit delete reply
When did Acantha get a FetLife account?
