Is this where I'm not allowed to come up with even worse scenarios ?

Like, CeCi being programmed to kill the royal family if she has the opportunity, so she tries to assasinate Acantha, but Ariana gets inbetween and gets killed. And then Dolly will have to fight CeCi .. TO DEATH, to stop her from killing Acantha?
Phil_ 9th Oct 2015, 7:05 AM edit delete reply
Clearly, CeCi will have to be fought at some point. tropes demand it.
Level of required damage to finish the fight unknown (incapacitated or destroyed)
Centcomm 8th Oct 2015, 9:42 PM edit delete reply

Ooh nice plot move Sheela! - goes back to work! They can all blame you now :D
Sheela 8th Oct 2015, 9:47 PM edit delete reply

Oh that's evil Centcomm, I love it. :)

Cliffhanger + Scenechange !
Dragonrider 8th Oct 2015, 10:05 PM edit delete reply

Somewhere in this mess somebody needs to show up with a stasis pod to save Democlus.
anonymous coward 8th Oct 2015, 10:10 PM edit delete reply
Good one. Seriously though, I'd need to spend effort at it to come up with a worse thing for Ceci to do in this situation than assassinate Acantha unless Centcomm has genocide on her to-do list for the week. That assassination would give Nova Roma causus belli AND would remove one of the moderates in Nova Roma politics.

This does set a challenge: Try to imagine an even more moronic thing that Ceci could be programmed to do.
Sheela 8th Oct 2015, 10:25 PM edit delete reply

She could assasinate Lynn Taylor.
anonymous coward 8th Oct 2015, 10:32 PM edit delete reply
Hmmm... I'd have to think about that one. That actually plausibly makes sense if Centcomm is prioritizing the issue of the Taylor keys to the nightmare vaults. It has already been noted that Lynn has all the access on that front that Calliope has, and Caligula II's objectives in all this mess have included gaining that access.
Johninaustin 9th Oct 2015, 6:49 PM edit delete reply
Yes, I'm agreeing with Sheela here. Lynn is who the real target is.
Beltboy 12th Oct 2015, 4:43 AM edit delete reply
Did you not pick-up right at the beginning when cent this plan in motion.

Nova Rome has aquired something when they kidnapped Lynn, CeCi is there to make sure they don't know what they have and use it. I always assumed that there is something about the Taylors, possibly they have trusted root access to Cent's mainframe the same way Acantha can Access the Roma AI.
HiFranc 8th Oct 2015, 11:16 PM edit delete reply

Centcomm isn't stupid. I suspect that her secret mission is to kill Decimus. However, I'm not sure if Centcomm is aware of the contingencies.
MirrorField 9th Oct 2015, 1:04 AM edit delete reply
Naah. I think that secret mission is about Aeneas... And that we're going to have a nice little clusterf*ck of "who's gonna repair Aeneas" agendas...
Lukkai 9th Oct 2015, 9:30 AM edit delete reply

That is if that classified objective has been inserted by Cent. And not TR.
DLKmusic 9th Oct 2015, 5:12 PM edit delete reply

Objectively.... Cent-Comm's Objective for Aeneas could very well be to destroy him beyond repair.
This may not be Ideal, but it will guarantee that Nova Roma will remain a technological backwater state for generations to come, and thereby cease to be a threat.
I'm not saying that IS Cent-Comm's objective, but it would be foolish to leave that scenario out of the equation.
anonymous coward 9th Oct 2015, 1:05 AM edit delete reply
It's Nova Roma public knowledge, and a key part of the reign of Decimus. I'm not saying it's impossible that Centcomm is ignorant of the countermeasures, but that would be incredibly high up the list of things she'd want and need to know to understand the political-economics and political-military situation in Nova Roma.
Centcomm 9th Oct 2015, 1:42 PM edit delete reply

those in the know .. know about the contingency's most people fear the Cassians and the legion enough that making the princes ace in the hole public knowledge isn't needed.

Hmmm, Twists indeed. Wonder what else Centcomm has buried in there?
Sheela 8th Oct 2015, 9:23 PM edit delete reply

Interestingly, it lists a "New objective : Classified (in progress)."

But yeah, it's not only the Cassians who have issues with free will limitations.
But then, Wathdog also lists him as "unknown" on the tracker, Thus a possible hostile.
That one guy 10th Oct 2015, 8:26 AM edit delete reply
Dolly's tracker color matches the objective. Lynn & the unknown color match her objective. The unknown Hostile tracker matches the new classified objective.

Based on likely angle of view between Lynn & Acantha, I don't think either of them are the hostile or unknown. I'm guessing Kyle is one of those (probably unknown, but possibly hostile).

Centcomm 9th Oct 2015, 1:41 PM edit delete reply

it does. :D
xpacetrue 8th Oct 2015, 9:31 PM edit delete reply

Guys. While Democlus is dying - and is likely to die - he aint dead quite yet. In particular, I find CeCi's internal dialog very interesting:

Watchdog: "No."
CeCi: "Watchdog?"
Watchdog: "Life signs declining rapidly. Subject is not important. Proceed."
CeCi: "But Mommy wants..."
Watchdog: "Deep programming activated. OBEY."
CeCi: "Yes."

Also, notice the "NEW OBJECTIVE: CLASSIFIED (IN PROGRESS)" in red in the upper left of her HUD in panel three. It looks like something triggered a new, classified (as in even CeCi doesn't know what it is) objective. It seems Cent-Comm is just full of surprises...

Methinks that while it MIGHT have been possible to at least stabilize Democlus, the Watchdog program doesn't want CeCi to try because that would delay them from their objectives (plural).

Edit: Argh. I was ninja'd by Sheela. ^_^

And who was it that hired the doggy ninja in the first place, eh ?
Guest 9th Oct 2015, 6:34 AM edit delete reply
"It seems Cent-Comm is just full of surprises..."

Why does it have to be Cent-Comm? It *is* in RED after all... Could it be an objective inserted by TR?

I'm guessing repairing Aeneas or aiding him in some way.
xpacetrue 9th Oct 2015, 10:05 AM edit delete reply

CeCi was created by Cent-Comm specifically for this mission - an ultra top secret mission which she took some rather drastic measures to keep secret. (E.g., listed Ada and Teedee as deceased.) Heck, CeCi - a Black Angel - was imprinted with Cent-Comm's own personality matrix. I suspect that's unheard of. (Hence the name: "CeCi" as in C and C...)

Tokyo-Rose sometimes get involved in world affairs. But while I'm sure they're aware of each other and communicate on occasions, we've not seen much to suggest TR has direct influence on Cent-Comm herself. (I doubt Cent-Comm was aware of TR's agents in Nova Roma or her plans for Aeneas. And I doubt she and TR exchanged info or plans before she sent Dolly's and Marcus' teams in.)

To insert a new, top secret, mission directive into CeCi would mean hacking her Watchdog module. TR may be one of (if not the) best hacker in the world. But I'm not sure if that's possible.

Though, to be fair, Dr. Silver -did- alter CeCi's Watchdog to be more... behaved after she learned that CeCi was a Black Angel who had sparked. (Silver has clearance and codes to modify Black Angels, though.) So... maybe?

CENT COM = SKYNET!! Get your EMP cannons
Centcomm 9th Oct 2015, 1:40 PM edit delete reply

If Cent was gonna go Skynet she would have a long time ago.
That one guy 10th Oct 2015, 8:31 AM edit delete reply
Doc Silver's ability to modify Ceci is irrelevant, as Marcus gave her access codes and she was using gear CentCom would've known about and had access to so there could be additional levels of authentication allowing her in.

I seem to remember it being mentioned that Ceci has three levels of processors. One is her main personality, one is watchdog, and I think the other was still unknown. If I'm remembering correctly, I think the unknown one just made its presence felt.
Beltboy 12th Oct 2015, 4:45 AM edit delete reply
I'm wondering if Dolly will notice that CeCi always says Mummy, except when Watchdog overrides then she says Dolly.
Boren 8th Oct 2015, 9:38 PM edit delete reply
Ah but our cleaver little CeCi has just slipped a clue that all is not well, now will Dolly be able to pick up on what she's telling her?
Sheela 8th Oct 2015, 9:39 PM edit delete reply

It would be interesting if Dolly checks him, just to be sure, and it turns out that he is able to survive.

I don't think Dolly would be best pleased with CeCi's assesment then.
Boren 8th Oct 2015, 9:41 PM edit delete reply
She doesn't have to, she just has to realize one other small detail
Centcomm 8th Oct 2015, 9:43 PM edit delete reply

Has she now? :D
Boren 8th Oct 2015, 9:44 PM edit delete reply
yes, she anyone else going to catch it?
Lukkai 9th Oct 2015, 9:33 AM edit delete reply

Noticed it immediately. And I'm pretty sure Dolly will as well, even if at this point (her concentration being elsewhere) it might just be a nagging feeling of "Waiit. Something was wrong with that." that she can't shake.
Boren 8th Oct 2015, 9:47 PM edit delete reply
By the way Cent did you get those articles I linked to you?
Guest 8th Oct 2015, 9:46 PM edit delete reply
It's a jarring enough clue, I'd be surprised if Dolly didn't note it, but considering the circumstances, she is probably willing to brush it aside since her objective is too close.
Sheela 8th Oct 2015, 9:54 PM edit delete reply

Oh, nice catch Boren, I actually had to look twice to notice it.

I would say that the clue might be a bit difficult to pick up on in a stressful situation, such as a rescue in a hostile territory. But then, Dolly has been with CeCi for a while now, that she might pick up on it.

"Dolly"??? That's not right. "Mommy" when they're in private, yes?

Also, where did she get the code.
Centcomm 9th Oct 2015, 1:39 PM edit delete reply

That will actually get answered next page .. where she got the code .. remember she has been in touch with several entities and the palace systems raping them for info.
Centcomm 9th Oct 2015, 1:39 PM edit delete reply

Tokyo Rose 9th Oct 2015, 5:22 PM edit delete reply

You're assuming Ceci is able to resist this level of activated programming enough to drop any clues at all...
Boren 9th Oct 2015, 8:11 PM edit delete reply
Yes I am, she is cleaver and designed to be adaptive on top of having gotten a few modifications along the way that Cent didn't plan on having to look out for
That one guy 10th Oct 2015, 8:34 AM edit delete reply
I didn't think Ceci was dropping a clue deliberately. I thought more that the deep programming/override appears to have also altered her personality and the name swap is just a function of that. Dolly won't be able to help noticing at some point.
Timotheus 8th Oct 2015, 9:44 PM edit delete reply

Wait until the doors turn out to be booby trapped by Democlus. Then he won't be so "unimportant". Watchdog is lacking in imagination.
Sheela 8th Oct 2015, 9:56 PM edit delete reply

I don't think Watchdog was created with imagination in mind.
Centcomm 9th Oct 2015, 1:38 PM edit delete reply

if there was a trap Ceci would have detected it Watchdog is quite methodical in scanning her surroundings.
Timotheus 10th Oct 2015, 1:22 AM edit delete reply

Of course there are booby traps and there are booby traps. Scanning might not catch contact cement on the release handle or a wet sponge falling from the ceiling followed by a hologram note saying "Save the guy!"
Wolfsbane 11th Oct 2015, 2:24 AM edit delete reply

Getting trapped by boobys is not such a bad thing...

The Old Scribe 8th Oct 2015, 10:12 PM edit delete reply

Looks like Nox is ready to be recycled into something useful ... like trash cans or sporks.

I'm guessin' Dolly is a lot more attuned to empathizing with a human's physical condition. She will detect life signs on her own and stabilize Demo until he can be rescued.

CeCi's not fully in Death Angel mode as shown by her concern for Demo, but Watchdog's keeping her focused on the mission. I wonder what the new objective could be?
Sheela 8th Oct 2015, 10:26 PM edit delete reply

Sercet Objective : Make Girl Scout Cookies .. with real girlscouts in them.
The Old Scribe 8th Oct 2015, 10:35 PM edit delete reply

Q. If Boy Scouts eat Girl Scout cookies, what do Cub Scouts eat?
A. Brownies.
Boren 8th Oct 2015, 10:30 PM edit delete reply
Oh obviously....
Centcomm 9th Oct 2015, 1:37 PM edit delete reply

Sadly Dolly only has Human level hearing and sight and touch she has no extra sensor packages .. her armor and glasses are Targeting and tactical Huds. She would not have asked Ceci to check him out if she could determine that at range.

The HUD seems to reveals a possible plotline. Only Dolly and Lynn are visible, apart from one hostile (Nox?) and an unknown entity (Democlus?).

I think this implies Arianna and Acantha have already taken the tram.

So Dolly and Ceci can intercept Lynn pretty quickly (not a lot of distance left), because Ceci has the code. And then the unknown objective is activated.

Stormwind13 9th Oct 2015, 7:47 AM edit delete reply

Clear as mud, Phil. The duo bringing us this odyssey is keeping us guessing.
Centcomm 9th Oct 2015, 1:32 PM edit delete reply

not saying a word.
Stormwind13 9th Oct 2015, 7:19 AM edit delete reply

I'm thinking what CeCi is picking up is Lynn, Arianna and Acantha as the hostile. She is armed after all. So far everyone with a weapon has been pretty damn HOSTILE to CeCi and Dolly in Nova Roma.

And yes I remember that Aeneas made that gun to be undetectable to the sensors he knows. I'm just betting that CeCi has sensors Aeneas has NO clue exist!

Now wouldn't it be sad if Dolly saved Lynn and CeCi killed Acantha because she has a gun? Kinda EXPECT such evilness from the EVIL duo bringing us the story.
Centcomm 9th Oct 2015, 1:32 PM edit delete reply

Arianna and Acantha are not the Hostile listed .. the only7 confirmed Hostile is / was Nox . She has not classed Demo yet and hes too badly injured to pose a threat
Stormwind13 10th Oct 2015, 6:01 AM edit delete reply

Ah, I see what you did now. The circle is showing where things are nearby. The Hostile was Nox (though how hostile she can be with her head blown clean off I'm not sure), Democlus (who isn't going anywhere, except the morgue it seems), Lynn because of the tracker (which is how Nox was finding her too) and DOL-E224 (who is standing right next to her).

It threw me off because normally the (player character) is at the center of the display (or at least that is how I configure it). :-)
That one guy 10th Oct 2015, 8:40 AM edit delete reply
I think Dolly & Ceci are tracking Lynn through another tracer put on her in New Troy. Nox was tracking Lynn through her bracelet tracer.
Centcomm 10th Oct 2015, 3:29 PM edit delete reply

Mark_L_A 9th Oct 2015, 7:58 AM edit delete reply

Some thoughts as my mind cogitates what I am seeing plus input from various other comments have struck the thoughts in my minds knapping them and sharpening them.

Watchdog reverts to old style font.

CeCi calls Dolly by her name instead of Mommy.

In her HUD it appears she is tracking the ladies and is classifying one of them as a threat. It could be Acantha because of Aeneas' weapon or not.

Dolly is thinking right now. I believe the fact CeCi called her Dolly instead of Mommy is going to click in her head in a little bit and she is going think that's odd. Especially as she knows there is still an issue with Watchdog.

My perambulation of the things seen so far, CeCi goes to open the door, Dolly clicks the previous and realizes CeCi isn't running the show right now.

What happens after that? Possibly Dolly winds up fighting CeCi to save Acantha or Arianna or even Lynn. If we remember the orders are to rescue Lynn or Destroy her, not Kill her Destroy her and any trace of her DNA.

Have a feeling that during the fight CeCi will try to take control again and pulls a Malati to save her Mommy.

Plus I am now wondering if CeCi's use of Dolly instead of Mommy was intentional on her part, trying to warn Dolly that she isn't in control anymore.
T1-G3R2501 9th Oct 2015, 11:06 AM edit delete reply
Counterthoughts. only a few though

While it does look like One of the ladies is being classified as a threat it may in fact be one of the two on the floor. The way that the markers are placed and the fact that Dolly is on that marker tells me its a 360 objective HUD like in most games.

As far as Dolly I hope she picked up on that switch in moods when CeiCei didn't call her mommy

That last classified objective has me worried though. Assassination objectives are usually occluded till the last minute so Acantha might be a target because she's the princess.
Centcomm 9th Oct 2015, 1:14 PM edit delete reply

The HUD is tracking Lynn because she has the BIO Chip Locked on and can pinpoint her within a few hundred meters.. THe other markers refer to Dolly and Demo and Nox - Acantha and Arianna are not showing up on her sensors yet.
they are too far away for her short range scanners to pick up. with all the concrete and metal.

Dolly taking care of Nox reminded me of Indiana Jones response to the swordsman in the market place. It was a rewrite suggested by Harrison Ford because he had a stomach bug at the time. He didn't feet up to doing any major stunts at that time,

I have something that would make sense as a tertiary objective, but I don't see why it would be classified. That would be to obliterate any trace information in medical systems involving Lynn and make sure to destroy any physical samples.

Although, to do that fully, it would probably require Aeneas' assistance and long-term monitoring to scan for things like hair and dead skin or other bits that can last a long time.

You do realize that removing Watchdog would effectively lobotomize Ceci? But she would make a great dress manikin ...

I realize it's a little late to bring this up, but could Nox operate any of her body by wireless? Just wondering.

Centcomm 11th Oct 2015, 8:30 PM edit delete reply

Nope with her Maccs hit her brain is back flashed and her nural net. Dolly picked her pistol for its hard hitting effects against Humans and machines. and she knows how to kill another android quickly.

But almost no android can remote the body once the MACCS is destroyed.

Now warbots are another animal all together.

Wasn't Democlus just being interrogated by Nox before Dolly popped her head off?

"He's beyond any help we could give him, Dolly."

"I'm not dead yet."

"Yes you are ... Well, nearly dead anyway."

"No. I feel fine."

Etc. ^_^
