Awwwww... poor Ophie...

...I guess it is like going into an MRT for the first time... if relaxing on command was so easy... =P

...and Cent is trying to manipulate again...
Naldru 10th Mar 2021, 9:11 PM edit delete reply
I have never heard of MRT. I assume that it refers to Magnetic Resonance Tomography, but I have usually heard MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and CAT (Computer Aided Tomography).

With regard to things you can hear but not see, there are apparently some rules about what they shouldn't say. I've heard "oops" is a big no-no. During an ultrasound, a resident once said "How is he still breathing" and the surgeon gave him a very dirty look. Being an engineer, I had a pretty good idea of how things looked on the display and also understood that the reason that I was still breathing is that the trachea is rather flexible and can bend around obstacles. Also, I knew that I was breathing normally, and the precise reason wasn't a serious source of concern.

By the way, I still have a CD of one of the CAT scans and some X-rays and the software to view it in 3D. I also learned that there were a few things they didn't tell me for fear of worrying me. (It was a comment by another doctor some years after the operation.) It didn't worry me, but it was a possible explanation of why the number of migraines went down after the operation. I viewed it as interesting. I think that some of the doctors felt that having an engineer for a patient was like dealing with Spock from Star Trek.

Let's face it. When the doctor ends the list of possible adverse reactions with "up to and including death", it seems pointless to worry about every item.
mjkj 11th Mar 2021, 2:05 AM edit delete reply

You are correct in your assumption, that is what it is called here afaik, but I also think I heard MRI once.
Rashala 10th Mar 2021, 12:58 AM edit delete reply

Been there, the talking yourself calm while the doc does stuff you can hear but not see.
Oldarmourer 10th Mar 2021, 7:24 AM edit delete reply
I had it lucky, if you can call it 'luck'
Got to watch the proceedings on the same monitor the Dr. used for an angiogram and arthroscopic knee surgery, both were very interesting and I got to see the results immediately :)
jawbone 10th Mar 2021, 2:04 PM edit delete reply

I had my first (and to date, my only) PITA[0], without a sedative, and watched the whole thing on the monitor.

[0] tube up the wazoo, if the above wasn't enough of a reference
Oldarmourer 10th Mar 2021, 8:34 PM edit delete reply
got knocked out for that one...just as well
watched an upper GI with the barium on a fluoroscope monitor, not nearly as interesting as the knee
Ryu Santos 10th Mar 2021, 12:59 AM edit delete reply

Just relax they said. Now I'm more nervous than I was before.

Strange Thought #1: Since it appears Ophelia can hear Dr. Teruhashi easily, does that mean she is also hearing Ilyana just as easily? (Probably not, if we assume some kind of intercom system — but we haven’t actually seen that yet.)

Strange Thought #2: would Ilyana lie to Dr. Teruhashi about the blatantly illegal and unethical directive coming directly from CentComm? If not, then how will Agamemnon react when he comes across this little item while monitoring CentComm’s intelligence gathering activities? Did CentComm even manage to last a full week before violating inter-city accords?
Evervigilant 10th Mar 2021, 2:53 AM edit delete reply
1. I'd bet Centcom can cleanse records so the conversation if recorded will be wiped.

2. I'd also bet Cent will find a backdoor to get at the recording if she really wants it. Asking was just probably a polite gesture.

Centcom isn't one to take no or legalities very seriously if past actions are any indicator. Snooping isn't the same as getting someone killed or harmed like the earlier actions that got her in trouble. She'd probably just get a slap on the virtual wrist for this or maybe just an eye roll in my opinion. Cent is sort of like the scorpion from the scorpion and the frog. Snooping is just part of her nature she cant change.
Some Ed 10th Mar 2021, 7:06 AM edit delete reply
Please understand that Ilyana requested the recording mostly to try to cover the fact that Centcomm's making a recording of everything she can already. There's possibly a little honest intent to the request as well, as there are probably some details that would be picked up by an official recording that Centcomm would otherwise miss, but not enough expectation of success for that to be enough motivation on its own to justify the request.

As far as violating the agreed upon restrictions, Centcomm's already violated that in a hundred different ways we'll never know about. It's a big city and a bigger world around it, and a lot of stuff goes on. We couldn't handle all the information that goes on about it, or even just the subset that consists of all of Centcomm's infractions. At *most*, we'll get to see all the ones she'll be called to the carpet over.
Oldarmourer 10th Mar 2021, 7:27 AM edit delete reply
That and most likely TR already has a shunt in place to pick off the most interesting bits...or gets a hand delivered copy from an agent ;)
Gilrandir 10th Mar 2021, 11:32 AM edit delete reply
So, the consensus is that CentComm (and Tokyo Rose, per @Oldarmourer) were both just lying through their teeth and laughing behind their hand at all the other A.I.S when they agreed to be bound by the verdict. That the definition of “virtue” is not getting caught?

Can we have Decimus back please? Apparently artificial life is capable of keeping their word and following through on their commitments as long as their commitments are to the foul, dastardly, and heinous? Actually following through on a commitment to people who aren’t loathesome toads has an apparent life expectancy of about 72 hours.

For the record, I would like to believe better of both of them, so I will hope events unfold to show my faith is not totally misplaced.
megados 10th Mar 2021, 11:40 AM edit delete reply

FWIW, I'm with you on that, @Gilrandir. I don't think they would just toss their agreement aside, and take the low road here, just because the opportunity may exist to do so. At least that's my hope. I wonder if this is Illyana's idea.
Oldarmourer 10th Mar 2021, 8:37 PM edit delete reply
there are degrees of 'compliance'...
what either would do if they thought they were protecting their citizens is up for debate
not unlike today where politicians carefully craft the wording of 'agreements' to be broken or bent so far as to be unrecognizeable and the lawyers let them do all depends on what 'is' is
Sheela 15th Mar 2021, 12:28 AM edit delete reply

There is also the possibility that this is a "play for the gallery", where they essentially speak out Ophelia's biggest fears (and by extension, her governments fears), and then have the Doctor deny them the opportunity to do so - Thus making Ophelia more relaxed, because she feels safer in the hands of a doctor that clearly cares about her rights.

A bit of "Good cop, bad cop" with a twist.
Some Ed 5th Apr 2021, 8:31 AM edit delete reply
To be clear, I only speak for me. Also, just because I feel that CentComm has violated the treaty in more ways than she's even aware, I don't feel like she's laughing about it.

CentComm seems to me like the sort of old warrior who does what she feels is necessary to protect her people, working around all obstacles to that, as well as she can. The biggest danger she poses is the conviction that she's always right, and thus will attempt to work around any control put in place to protect others from the fact that she isn't always right.

Also, from CentComm's perspective, the biggest thing she was charged with was failure to communicate, and this is all about receiving communication. Anyway, it was really all Tokyo Rose's fault for not communicating better.

Is Cent-Comm testing the doctors ethics ?, if so did she pass as Cent-Comm will be recording the data from the dozen secret back doors in to that system
megados 10th Mar 2021, 5:49 AM edit delete reply

If the requirement is that Ophelia and the NR government sign off on Illyana receiving a copy of the recording, one would hope that Ophelia and the NR government (Noctis perhaps?) gets to look at the recording first, to see what was recorded.

sigpig 10th Mar 2021, 10:06 AM edit delete reply

I love the pattern of Ophelia's clothing; it looks like some sort of hide.
I would think that the only hide worthy of being worn by a Cassian is the hide from a murder-turd. All the suppleness of naugahyde, all the armour you would expect from a Grade-A murder-turd ranch...
sigpig 10th Mar 2021, 10:14 AM edit delete reply

I just thought of something weird. It's a given that the Cdr Pauline chassis had the full-on fun -factory installed. This makes me wonder if Ophilia originally had that upgrade, and if that upgrade has been incorporated into her new chassis.
If she resembles Noctis more than (presumably) Malati (RIP), I can completely understand being relatively unable to act on the demands of the software. Imagine being horny as f$%* and not even having the equipment to relieve the itch...
Oldarmourer 10th Mar 2021, 8:39 PM edit delete reply
Given some of the things she's said, I sort of think she had the full package...maybe even a little upgrade with her new frame.

Very Minor Thought:

Given that Ophelia's vocal patterns seem to have been programmed using old recordings of Steve Irwin and Paul Hogan as a basis, i'd think she'd say "under the bonnet", not "under the hood"...

Ebonbolt 12th Mar 2021, 12:00 AM edit delete reply

Interesting side notes: Ilyana asked for a recording of the session, not the analysis, nor (& I nitpick here) the data analyzed. Moreover, she asked to receive the recording herself (at CentComm's direction), not that it be given to CentComm. Just minor little details that may or may not be important.
Oldarmourer 12th Mar 2021, 4:37 AM edit delete reply

Maybe she has a thing for 'Androids under Glass' ? ;)

This one just wouldn't let go, it's still a work in progress, but it's screaming to be set free and annoy gentle people...

even for me it's pretty bad, I'll punch it up later, promise ;)

My sincerest apologies to Centcomm and TR actuals, the authors of the song, Feelie, everyone else in that room with her, the readers and most of the sentient population of the Universe in general...
Had to be done, did it, not sorry...well, maybe a little, but Ill get over it...

You all know the tune..or you will after you click the link ;)

Defraggin' her mind

This old brain's bounced some real hard ways
Glad they're givin' it a good spa day
After gettin' blown up and stuck in a sexbot frame
Defraggin' my mind (Defraggin' my mind)

Centcomm's up there in Helios Tower
I'm gonna be stuck in this tube for hours
Dreamin' 'bout Goldiebots, burnt toast and Officer Da-a-an
Defraggin' my mind (Defraggin' my mind)
Defraggin' my mind (Defraggin' my mind)

I feel fine
I'm talkin' 'bout peace of mind
Somethin' to help unwind
I'm havin'a good time
Defraggin' my mind (Defraggin' my mind)
Defraggin' my mind (Defraggin' my mind)

Lusty Bunny has left some traces
Doin' the darndest things in the darndest places
Like rubbin' one out under glass
In this big machi-i-ine
Defraggin' my mind (Defraggin' my mind)
Defraggin' my mind (Defraggin' my mind)

I feel fine
I'm talkin' 'bout peace of mind
I'm gonna take my time
And have me a good one
Defraggin' my mind (Defraggin' my mind)
Defraggin' my mind (Defraggin' my mind)

Defraggin' my mind (Defraggin' my mind) (La-la la-la la-la la-la)
Defraggin' my mind (Defraggin' my mind) (La-la la-la la-la la)
Defraggin' my mind (Defraggin' my mind) (La-la la-la la-la la-la)
Defraggin' my mind (Defraggin' my mind) (La-la la-la la-la la)

Cent being all "my laws don't apply to me" again. Didn't the other AI's just take you to task over this? Stop being so paranoid!

(Not you, @Centcomm, we all love you.)
Ebonbolt 14th Mar 2021, 5:33 PM edit delete reply

Notably, in this specific instance, nothing is (overtly) said about it being illegal for Centcomm to obtain the recordings (it may be, but it's not being addresses here, specifically); it is illegal (& unethical, which might be a more pressing issue for the good doctor) for Dr. Teruhashi to provide Illyana with the requested recordings. Small thing, but significant in certain ways.
jawbone 13th Mar 2021, 6:12 PM edit delete reply

This page has yet another possible foretaste of a possible friendship between Feelie and the Doc. This just adds to my contention that Feelie passes my Turing Test. This the plants a seed in my hindbrain wondering about whether Feelie is a human in a bot chassis...
Oldarmourer 15th Mar 2021, 8:32 AM edit delete reply
Feelie, Dolly and the rest of the Anroids don't take the Turing test..they administer humans ;)

It's okay, Ophelia, the machine isn't doing anything scary. The scariest thing happening here is in the control room, where Illyana is trying to violate your right to privacy.
Oldarmourer 15th Mar 2021, 3:23 PM edit delete reply
Is it just me ? or does Feelie look a bit different in this one ?
I know she got a new body but something seems like it changed a little and I can't put my finger on it ?
Maybe the profile look ?
Oldarmourer 15th Mar 2021, 7:05 PM edit delete reply

Almost missed it :)
This being the 'Ides of March' and Nova Roma being in a Canadian Province...
I couldn't resist throwing this one out from a very popular TV show from days gone by
We never missed it...mostly because there were only three channels...
One was in French and the one from Nova Roma was the same as the other English one just with different commercials and you could only get it if the wind was blowing from that direction ;)

Still, it's a timeless classic I hope someone can get a laugh out of today.

I told him...Juley...don't go !!!

and in case you want the original, much longer version, here that is too.

Juley shouldn't have gone...
